YMMV / Miraculous Ladybug S01 E24 "Volpina"

Go To

  • Harsher in Hindsight: As seen below at Unintentionally Sympathetic and Unintentionally Unsympathetic, Lila initially appeared sympathetic when Ladybug exposed her in front of Adrien due to how harsh Ladybug was. However, after certain things were revealed about Lila in Season 5, it's... best to say Ladybug was right to expose her.
  • Informed Wrongness: Sure, Ladybug was too harsh on Lila when she called her out, and it's Ladybug's fault that Lila became the villain Volpina, but it's not, you know, Lila's fault for lying about Ladybug on the Ladyblog, stealing Adrien's dad's book and throwing it in the trash (which got him taken out of school in the next episode!), lying about being a superhero (which could have gotten a target put on her back), or disparaging Ladybug to make herself look good - rather it's Ladybug's fault for stooping to pettily calling her out because she was just jealous.
  • Unintentionally Sympathetic: Regardless of Ladybug's handling of the situation, Lila's manipulations and lies are still framed as being in the wrong, but all that is known of her from her debut episode is that she's a new student who seemingly travels a lot, and none of her lies become malicious until she's trying to distract Adrien from finding out his book is gone. Some fans took this as her simply lying to make friends and impress a famous boy she likes, and taking it too far. Later episodes would make Lila a lot more intentionally malicious, reducing this somewhat.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: While Ladybug's impulsive confrontation of Lila is ultimately a mistake on Ladybug's part, the viewers are still meant to take Marinette's side in fearing that Lila will take Adrien away from her, but this is undercut by the fact that Marinette knows absolutely nothing about Lila besides that she's a well-connected new student who lied that Ladybug once rescued her, and decides that Lila must be a bad person simply out of jealousy of how close she was getting to Adrien. That Lila ended up being even worse than Marinette had assumed she was doesn't change that Marinette had little reason to believe the worst in Lila at the time.
