Adaptation Displacement: Prior to Massenet's opera, Daniel Auber had written an opera called Manon Lescaut, also an adaptation of Prévost's novel. However, hardly anyone knows of Auber's adaptation, as Massenet's has fully upstaged it.
First Installment Wins: Ten years after Manon, Massenet composed a one-act sequel titled Le portrait de Manon, which focuses on Des Grieux's life after Manon's death. However, it's rarely performed today, and not too many people are aware of its existence.
