  • Narm Charm:
    • Few reviewers will say this OVA is good, but even fewer will deny that its unapologetic 80s insanity makes it highly entertaining, especially for those who seek this flavor. Its surprisingly good animation also helps.
    • In particular, the fact that the main villains of the OVA are demonic fairies of all things can be hard to take seriously even with some of their more gruesome abilities. Then you get to their leader, who's One-Winged Angel form is basically a roided out nude blue elf with fairy wings. Scary is not a word that comes to mind, but she's still very memorable and even a bit intimidating due to her sheer power.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Silly elements aside, the plot of the OVA is actually pretty terrifying when you look at it from Riki's perspective. Imagine one day while you're at school demonic entities begin slipping into your reality and you end up getting possessed by a demon lord. Afterwards you have to fend off a full on demon invasion while also being caught in the crossfire of several powerful forces you can barely comprehend. All just because you decided to don a tiger mask and fight a bunch of karate students in a school club, accidentally triggering an ancient prophecy.
  • So Bad, It's Good: As put by this article:
"From a strict, demanding perspective, the 1987 Battle Royal High School OVA makes no sense at all. But any anime that manages to include space-ships, Tiger Mask, sentai heroes, wizards, fairies, tentacle monsters, and a six-foot tall fighting teddy bear into a single hour earns the attribution of awesome."
