YMMV / Legends of Tomorrow S4 E5 "Tagumo Attacks!!!"

Go To

  • Awesome Music: "Girl" by Timecop1983 plays at the end of the episode when Nora is turning herself in to the Time Bureau and a montage with the other characters.
  • Anvilicious: Honda's memories of Hiroshima leaves the Legends speechless. It would have been more meaningful if Honda had actually been there and not a Chinese POW camp seeing the Empire for what it really was.
  • Genius Bonus:
    • The bomb that Honda hides the film under goes unexplained; he actually got it during World War II when it landed right in front of him but failed to explode, and kept it on his desk for the rest of his life.
    • There are a couple references to lesser known Honda films: the opening scene has him filming The Blue Pearl, and Mick suggests the octopus die in a volcano like in Frankenstein Conquers the World.
  • Special Effects Failure: Tagumo itself looks fantastic. Tagumo trying to crush Sara in one of its tentacles, not so much.
  • Strawman Has a Point: Charlie is offended that the Legends assume that a magical fugitive is responsible for the destruction in this episode, considering them biased against magical beings. However, other than Charlie (and even she didn't make the best of first impressions, nor has she gone out of her way to be particularly endearing since), every other fugitive the Legends have encountered has been a violent killing machine, with at least two of them being intelligent to be actively malevolent. It's hard to blame them for thinking that a monster that will destroy Tokyo might not be worth a "fair shake".
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Mick taking over the writing works quite well on its own, but fans of Japanese movies likely got their hopes up a bit that it could instead be passed to Ishiro Honda's friend and frequent collaborator Akira Kurosawa, resulting in a bunch of Samurai saving the day.
