YMMV / Legends of Tomorrow S2E2 "The Justice Society of America"

Go To

  • Genius Bonus:
    • Stein impersonating Max Lorenz gets even more awesome when you know that like Victor Garber, Lorenz was gay. And in fact he was fairly open about it, but was such a great singer that the Nazis were largely willing to let it go, including an incident where Hermann Göring personally stepped in to keep his (Jewish!) wife and mother from being arrested.
    • His singing "Edelweiss" is a multiple, as in the show it's used as a distraction to escape the Nazis, and its being played before actually being written while introduced as a popular song in Austria references the myth that it's the country's national anthem. Finally, it was written for The Sound of Music, a musical about a family resisting and escaping the Nazis.
  • Special Effects Failure: "Super-Krieger" looks incredibly fake; it's practically the show's answer to Ang Lee's Hulk.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: An entire JSA team appears and mostly - doesn't use its powers after the initial Curbstomp Battle with the Legends. Of the entire JSA, only Vixen uses her powers repeatedly throughout the episode and we see Stargirl use hers in two or three short scenes. Obsidian uses his powers exactly once - a little strange considering he's one of the more powerful JSA members *ever*. Which is still better than Doctor Mid-Nite, who pretty much just stands around and uses his special vision once (even though he actually *hears* Rory come up on him from behind) or Rex, who, well, if you had to guess by episode alone, Rex has no powers or abilities whatsoever - just like Commander Steel but then again, Steel has a gun and gets in every fight he can. Overall, the JSA's status comes across as a serious case of Informed Ability, since, after that short scuffle at the start of the episode the viewers don't get much of a impression of their abilities or how or why they deserved their reputation.
