• Ho Yay: Amir and Hassan, obviously. It should be noted that physical affection between men is much more acceptable in Iran than in North America. However, some scenes (such as the dancing scene, which ends with Hassan's Cry into Chest, with Amir stroking his hair and his hand - cut to them sleeping beside each other) are even Ho Yay by Iranian standards.
• The Woobie: Both Amir and Hassan, in some ways. Fortunately, the movie ends on a high note for both of them.
