- Billing Displacement: Yan Bingyun is a fairly minor character who only shows up near the end, but between the show's filming and airing, actor Xiao Zhan become a huge celebrity for playing Wei Wuxian in The Untamed, and he ended up featuring disproportionately heavily in the marketing.
- Strangled by the Red String: For those who don't like the Fan Xian/Lin Wan'er relationship, which involves them falling in Love at First Sight and arguably is given very little development in the show (in the books, Wan'er has a lot more "screentime" so to speak, so her character gets to be more fleshed out than it is in the show).
