• Alternative Character Interpretation: Akiyoshi is shown to be ignorant of his son's sexuality, despite Hiroki being basically unable to hide it, with the rest of the family plainly aware of him probably being gay. Is Akiyoshi's distance from his family making him unaware of it? Is he refusing to see something he doesn't want? Or is he just as much of an airhead as his own son, and that is why that just flies over his head?
• Escapist Character: There's an intensely escapist fantasy in Hiroki and his relationship with his mother: the idea, for a gay person of any age, that your parent will be supportive and accepting of your sexuality, dedicating themselves to make sure that you feel comfortable even before coming out to them while simultaneously respecting your privacy in the subject, and wishing that the world and the people in your life will also accept and love you.
• Fan Nickname: Tomoko is often called "Best Mom," especially by the LGBT+ readership, owing to the fact that she is often seen by them as an Escapist Character as to what their own family members should be.
• Viewer Name Confusion: Chinese viewers of the series often mistake Daigo's kanji name 醍吾 as 醒吾.^note Chinese Language users frequently use the hanzi 醒(adj. alert, awake) and the hanzi 醍 has little use—it's part of a compound noun 醍醐 which means ghee, taken for its religious significance in Buddhism. Conversely, in Japanese Language, 醒 has been taken off from the official kanji list, while 醍 is kept in owing to being part of the regnal names of several emperors, with Emperor Go-Daigo being very important.
