YMMV / I Married My Female Friend

Go To

  • Broken Base: The relatively chaste nature of the main couple's relationship. Detractors complain that this is unromantic at best and at worst, is indicative of archaic trends in manga that show unnaturally "pure" same-sex relationships between women. Fans, however, argue that the emotional aspect of Kurumi and Ruriko's relationship matters more than the physical one, and their increasing closeness over the course of the series is more meaningful than simple gestures of affection. The fact that their marriage vows are their house rules, with the rule about going back to being friends if someone finds someone else being replaced by a vow to put each other first is either a genuinely heartwarming moment that shows how much they've grown as a couple, or proof of how little the couple has changed.
  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: Rio started off as a Base-Breaking Character, in part because of her role in the story, since her detractors were afraid that she would drive a wedge between Kurumi and Ruriko by serving as a romantic rival for the latter. The debate on this front was settled relatively quickly when Rio was soon revealed as more of a "daughter" to Ruriko and Kurumi.
