YMMV / I Know What You Did Last Summer (2021)

  • Captain Obvious Reveal: The First-Episode Twist that the twin driving was actually Alison and the twin that got killed was actually Lennon was telegraphed by the fact that there were twins in the first place.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Alison chooses to continue the fiction she's Lennon in front of the cops, outright lies to them that the innocent Dylan stabbed her, sending him to prison and giving the insane Margot an out while being roped into a hideously unhealthy relationship. Also a similar crossing for her father, who knows Dylan is innocent but says nothing so he can continue the charade.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic:
    • Really, the entire friend group for dumping the body of Lennon — allegedly their lifelong best friend — in the cave in order to hide their crime. In the original book and the 1997 film, the group did not know the person whom they struck which, while still morally wrong, makes slightly more sense and the group mostly angsts about it even without knowing the person. Meanwhile, this show’s group of teens are far more cavalier about dumping their friend’s body that it makes it easier for audience members to root for the killer.
    • Dylan, who is depicted as the moral Nice Guy of the group, is the one who suggests putting Lennon’s body in the cave to begin with. Beforehand, he also has sex with his crush’s sister, which the narrative excuses as being solely Lennon’s fault.
    • While a minor character, Coach Craft is this as well. His relationship with Johnny, whom he left his wife for, began when the latter was still one of his students at the high school and yet no one seems to have a problem with this. In fact, everyone is quick to suspect and demonize his ex-wife after both he and Johnny are killed while praising his relationship with Johnny.
