YMMV / I Believe in Santa Claus

Go To

  • Special Effects Failure: After Santa has already found the kids and safely taken them back to his cabin, the next morning he needs them to wake up. At this point, it's been established that there is a cute little puppy staying with Santa, which he asks to wake the children. So someone—presumably Santa since there's no one else around—throws the puppy on top of the children to wake them. The failure comes in with how the scene is staged; someone off-screen literally yeets the dog at the bed and it lands on the kids. However, the person's hands aren't visible, so it just looks completely hilarious that someone off-screen is clearly throwing the dog and not instead having the dog hop onto the bed by itself or with a little staircase like most pet owners with short dogs have so it looks more natural. It looks ridiculous in a movie already jam-packed with ridiculous moments. (And don't worry—the dog is in no way thrown hard enough to have hurt it, but it does look absolutely absurd regardless.)
  • Unintentional Period Piece: After 9/11, it would be pretty much impossible for children to sneak onto an airplane, let alone an international flight. For that matter, the only facilities available to non-flyers at most modern airports are the ticket counter and baggage claim, meaning there wouldn't be much to do on an elementary school field trip.
  • What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: This is a Christmas movie where a boy's parents are kidnapped by an African militia, and the boy is kidnapped by an ogre whose alter ego is an abusive school janitor. Someone thought this was appropriate for kids.
