  • Heartwarming in Hindsight: This episode reveals Farnsworth made Zoidberg Cubert's godfather, which might seem like a strange choice until seeing "The Tip of the Zoidberg".
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Four years after this episode first aired, Ken Ham, a fundamentalist Christian former science teacher who founded Answers in Genesis (AiG), a Christian apologetics ministry devoted to young-earth creationism, challenged Bill Nye to a debate on evolution versus creationism after the latter appeared in a YouTube video lamenting the large proportion of the American population that continued to believe in creationism. The debate was hosted at Ham's Creation Museum in Petersburg, Kentucky, and was live-streamed on YouTube. The debate largely left the question of creation versus evolution unsettled in the minds of the American public, and though Nye is generally seen as having "won" the debate, he was criticized for giving credibility to AiG by accepting the debate to begin with. For his part, Ham claimed that the increase in donations to AiG helped fund a life-sized replica of Noah's Ark for the Creation Museum.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: Many people who deal with creationist arguments love this episode, due to how accurately it portrays the frustration factor; the portion where Farnsworth lists human ancestors as Dr. Banjo keeps Moving the Goalposts being one commonly quoted highlight.
  • Memetic Mutation: "I don't want to live on this planet anymore." Has become a reaction picture.
