YMMV / Friday Night Funkin' — Below the Depths

Go To

  • Awesome Music: Sink is an intense and hopeless-feeling song that shows how Sink is suffering in an endless cycle of drowning.
  • Fridge Brilliance:
    • Why can't Sink just spindash in order to break free of the chain around his leg? His story and the mod are set in the original Sonic the Hedgehog, and in said game, the spindash didn't exist.
    • There's no one around to help Sink because no one knows him yet. Tails meets Sonic in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Knuckles meets him in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and Amy meets him in Sonic the Hedgehog CD. Sonic's journey through Labyrinth Zone takes place before all of those encounters, so aside from a few animals here and there, no one really knows about Sonic aside from Eggman, who's less than likely to help him out.
  • Fridge Horror: So... considering that this mod takes place in Sonic the Hedgehog, and Sink is stuck in the bottom of Labyrinth Zone, what's stopping Eggman from completely taking over South Island? Heck, there's nothing really stopping him from taking over the entire world.
    • It's possible that other characters, like Mighty and Ray or the Chaotix, might rise to the occasion in Sonic's stead.
  • Mythology Gag: Debatable. There is an oversight in the water gimmick from the original game where, upon grabbing the checkpoint in Labyrinth Zone Act 3, the current condition for the map would be stored along with Sonic's position. Were one to grab it after touching the floating block to trigger the water, every time they died they would respawn to find the entire section covered in water and no block to get to Eggman until they ran out of lives and/or had to restart. This could very well be the case, hence why Sonic always goes back to the same spot after drowning.
  • Nightmare Fuel: The entire mod’s story; Being chained down to the bottom of the ocean is a horrifying enough thought. But for Sink, he's stuck in a loop of drowning over and over again as he keeps being revived. The mod can even be beaten without hitting a single note, hammering in the fact that Sink can’t even just lay down and die. Otherwise, even 100%ing the song will not change the situation in the slightest, only emphasizing Sink’s will to live.
  • The Woobie: Sink is unable to die due to his determination, which means the poor guy is stuck in an endless cycle of drowning and coming back to life only to drown again.
