• Complete Monster: Chang Hsiao-Tien and Kao Chin, the Centipede and the Scorpion respectively, are the renegade students of the Venom Clan who seek to steal its accumulated wealth. To this end, Scorpion manipulates Centipede and his comrade the Snake (who is a villain only because of his loyalty to Centipede) into assaulting a household to locate the treasure; the two slaughter everyone except one, with Centipede violently torturing the last survivor before killing him. Scorpion and Centipede later pin the crime on the heroic Toad and have him tortured and killed before eliminating any witnesses to the crime. Scorpion sets up Centipede and Snake to face the heroic Lizard as well as the final student of the Venom Clan, so that he can exterminate all who know of him and take the treasure for himself. When Scorpion betrays Snake and strikes him down, Centipede simply takes Scorpion's side in the coming duel with the heroes. Both men are driven by nothing more than an insatiable greed and their own egos.
• Cult Classic: Mainly to those who are loyal fans of the Shaw Brothers.
• Hilarious in Hindsight: Maybe in a humorously dark sort of way given the Typecasting, but the fact that a year later Lo Mang once again ends up playing a nigh-invincible character who's weakpoint is located on their head, and Sun Chien just so happens to play the character who toys around with him and others for his own agenda once more...with Philip Kwok being a heroic Chinese officer in the middle of it all.
• Too Cool to Live: Liang Shen, AKA The Toad; a guy who's literally nigh-invincible had to be the first to die, unfortunately, to make it clear that being nigh-invincible doesn't meant he cannot be killed by the other styles...otherwise he would have become the main protagonist and overshadowed Yan Tieh and Meng Tien-Hsia, the latter who is The Lizard.
