YMMV / Final Fantasy VII Remake: Trace of Two Pasts

Go To

  • Continuity Lockout: Not only must you play Remake to understand this book, but you also must have played the PS1 original.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Faz reveals that he was madly infatuated with Ifalna, which was the only reason why he helped her and Aerith escape. Years after Ifalna's death, Faz encounters Aerith again while she's alone and vulnerable, and then tries to have his way with her even though she's still but a young, pre-pubescent child at this point. Thankfully, his vile act ends up thwarted by Elmyra, who came to Aerith's aid just in the nick of time.
  • Ship-to-Ship Combat: While the love triangle is hardly a focus of this novel, the official English translation of the novella has been hotly debated over by shippers over its portrayal of Tifa as seemingly "never been too close towards Cloud" as a child. Cloud and Tifa shippers have accused the English translation of downplaying Cloud and Tifa's relationship as children in contrast to supposedly more "unbiased" earlier fan translations (which were done by a translator with an admitted favorable disposition towards the "Cloti" ship). On the other hand, Cloud and Aerith shippers (who have always argued that Cloud and Tifa were never that close as friends) argue that the official translation is the correct lore-accurate portrayal of Cloud and Tifa's relationship as children and is backed up by the original game.
