• Alternate Character Interpretation:
  • Is Eve's mom a good person, saving people as best she can even when it means ignoring the law, or has she harmed more people than it's worth?
  • Is Aislin an interesting exploration of someone trapped in a bad situation, or is she an intentionally annoying character whose only purpose is to make Eve look better?
• Angst Dissonance: Solo, to some extent. True, a lot of people lose parents, but most of them don't get adopted by mad scientists that put him to work instead of sending him to school.
• Jerkass Woobie: Maddox, sort of.
• The Scrappy: The scientists that joke about raping Eve. Virtually every review of the book on the internet that isn't 100% positive mentions them as a huge problem.
