• Alternate Character Interpretation: Did Jorge really want to get married to Susana and have a kid with her, or did he just do it to finally settle down because he's the oldest brother?
• Beam Me Up, Scotty!: Antonio never actually says tres empanadas... in a despondent manner. The closest he gets is indignantly confirming he only found three when Sergio guesses there were only empanadas at the house he and Sergio went to look for Mama Cora in.
• Fountain of Memes: The movie is endlessly quotable, with entire Facebook groups dedicated to memeing it to hell and back.
• Jerkass Woobie: Susana. She can be cruel and petty, and she dislikes her inlaws just as much as they do her, but it's clear her sour demeanor stems from her hard life. Her husband is unsupportive and leaves her completely alone to take care of the household, their infant child and his own ailing mother; the family she married into don't respect her, constantly talk down to her because she's the youngest wife and shut her down when she cries for help or defends herself; and her mother-in-law is senile, meddling and judgmental, and needs better care than Susana can provide.
