• Author's Saving Throw: Originally, the Ponyville citizens actually laughed at Connor when he was "rewarded" for saving Celestia by getting beaten by corrupt Royal Guards, which many readers considered to be just too mean. So Ceehoff ultimately edited it to where said citizens now just look on in conflicted shock instead.
• Jerkass Woobie: Connor to an extent. He is pretty much a loner in high school, and his social situation does not improve when he ends up in Ponyville, where he becomes ostracized by the apprehensive townspeople, and the Mane 6 begin to avoid him when they become pariah's. He isn't a complete jerk, but his response to bullies is to think vindictive things, and when he gets pissed like after being attacked by the traitorous royal guards, he lashes out at everybody, regardless of how much they deserve it. He does overcome this only to be killed in a car crash when he returns home, but thankfully he is allowed to live a new life in Equestria.
• Moral Event Horizon: In the prequel, Hellfire crossed it by murdering two royal guards to cover his tracks, and later trying to kill Celestia in her sleep. Hellfire crosses it in the first story if not by threatening to murder Fluttershy, it is when he frees a hydra to have it eat Celestia and the Mane 6, after the latter was willing to forgive him.
  • Also, the Dragon in the prequel crosses it when he specifically targets Hellfire's innocent family after seeing his fear for their safety. So no one misses said Dragon when he, in turn, becomes one of the very first victims of Hellfire's consequential Face–Heel Turn.
