YMMV / Elevator Action Returns

Go To

  • Awesome Music: Yasuhisa Watanabe provides a great soundtrack for Returns, giving it a calm, soothing and jazzy soundtrack that somehow fits with the tone of the game perfectly. The soundtrack album features extended music tracks with extra verses not featured in the arcade original or its ports, and definitely worth a listen.
  • Cult Classic: Returns is considered a huge leap above the original game by those who have played it but isn't considered a commercial success, which is attributed to the 11-year Sequel Gap as well as 3D games beginning to dominate the arcades at the time. Many fans of the original game aren't even aware a sequel was even made!
  • Even Better Sequel: Many consider Returns to be better than the original game in every aspect, with smoother controls, faster gameplay, great graphics, a fantastic soundtrack, and consider it an overlooked classic.
  • Polished Port: The Saturn port of Returns is considered by many to be arcade-perfect, and some have even stated that it lacks the slowdown found in the original arcade game. Although it limits the player to three credits, it also includes the original game as an unlockable bonus.
  • Porting Disaster: The arcade port of Returns in the Taito Legends compilations is said to have various issues in each version, such as the machinegun lacking rapid fire in the American and European PS2 version, and the lights not going out when shooting them in the XBox and PC versions.
