YMMV / Dracula the Un-Dead (2009)

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Dracula is a Friendly Neighborhood Vampire, and everything he did in the original novel is Retconned to be self-defense, the lesser of two evils or just plain libel that Bram Stoker invented.
  • Creator's Pet: A really weird case in that the "pet" in question is a book. The authors never miss a chance to praise The Picture of Dorian Gray, continually declaring it better than the original Dracula. They even have Bram Stoker himself think at one point that his book will be forgotten while Dorian Gray will go on to be remembered as the great gothic horror right before he's murdered by Dracula.
  • Die for Our Ship: Jonathan is killed early in the book, and Mina goes gaga for Dracula. An in-universe example perhaps?
  • Lost in Imitation: This book is more consistent with film adaptations that the original novel, from vampires burning in sunlight to Mina and Dracula being in love.
  • Ron the Death Eater: Jonathan gets an absolute hammering in this book, having turned from a decent if slightly bone-headed guy to an alcoholic, abusive whoremonger. Seward gets it to a lesser extent, being a dick who never forgave Arthur for winning Lucy's hand. But the worst is undoubtedly what they've done to Bram Stoker, here a petty, jealous egomaniac who'll step on anyone to stay famous.
