• Alternative Joke Interpretation: When the Doctor sees the screaming sun does he smile because he has Seen It All, or is he smiling because that was probably one of the few things he has never seen before and finds it neat? The comments on the video seem to lean on the latter.
• Hilarious in Hindsight: The Doctor's only response to the screaming sun is to wistfully smile. In just a few days the Doctor would encounter a being from a world with a mad living sun. Needless to say the Doctor would find such a sun nowadays much more troubling.
• Salvaged Story: A common complaint about past episodes with an All-Loving Hero that doesn't like to kill people or will only use it as a last resort would make said hero completely bloodthirsty, causing any reluctance they had in killing their foe to come off as an Informed Attribute. This episode directly addresses this by having the Doctor only ever defend himself from Rick and repeatably attempt to deescalate the fight, with the only attempt at getting him killed being indirectly via leaving him with the Weeping Angels (whose standard method of killing is merciful anyway, sending you back in time to die of old age), making his reluctance to use the D-Mat gun feel far more natural and in character.
