YMMV / Clifford's Really Big Movie

Go To

  • Broken Base: The main plot features a villain that tries to and succeeds in taking Clifford away from Emily Elizabeth, and a large heaping dose of Mood Whiplash thanks to Jody Gray's contribution that is an extremely depressing soundtrack. Part of the fanbase loved the emotional roller coaster. Part of the fanbase (which wanted a happy romp around Birdwell Island and nothing more) thinks it sucked because of being put through said emotional roller coaster.
  • Heartwarming Moments: A lot between Clifford and Emily, as per usual.
    • The reason why Clifford ran away? He was worried that the Howards were having trouble keeping up with his feeding expenses, and saw that George C Wolfbottom's talent show was offering a life time supply of Tummy Yummies and joined the circus to try and help pay for his keep. Of course the worry was only sparked by some Innocently Insensitive comments from Mr. Bleakman, and Clifford has already sadly slunk off when the Howards assure him it's nothing, as Clifford is like family to them.
  • Moment of Awesome: Eight year old Emily Elizabeth, when she learns what Wolfsbottom tried to do with Clifford, shows her Mama Bear side and tells him off. Nobody messes with her dog.
  • Tear Jerker: Though initially bringing the one to invite Clifford on board to help save his family, Shackleford becomes more frosty as it seems like Clifford is taking the show, culminating in him insulting Clifford by declaring the only thing he cares about his stomach.
    • Shortly after, Dorothy, though appalled by the ferret's behavior, while apologizing on his behalf mentions Shackleford "isn't the most secure ferret". It's not really dwelt on and Shack is still fully accountable for antagonizing Clifford, but it got a little too real for a moment when she said that.
    • Dorothy really feels down on herself because her fear of heights interfering with her act.
    • Shack is pretty devastated when he finds out that if the gang can't get their act together, Gablegobble won't be given the means to house his animal gang.
    • And Gablegobble himself puts on a brave face for the group.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: The whole contest arc in the movie wraps pretty quickly and while we do get a brief look at the competition, we don't actually see them competing.
  • Unintentional Uncanny Valley: Everyone has normal eyes. Some find it well suited, given that Clifford was the only one without Black Bead Eyes. Others find it a bit creepy.
