  • Nightmare Fuel: Spook’s description of Gold Pelt and his gang. They live up to their reputation and then some.
  • Tearjerker: Choo Choo breaking down after having been tortured and having his claws ripped out in chapter 4. He has another break down in chapter 7.
    • Spook crossing the Despair Event Horizon when Gold Pelt slashes Top Cat’s throat at the end of chapter 6. The normally laid back member of the gang completely breaks, pleading for Top Cat’s life.
    • Dibble’s shell shocked reaction to Top Cat being found on the verge of death in chapter 7.
    • The end of chapter 8, with Benny bursting into tears in Top Cat’s lap after the latter just barely survives his brush with death.
    • Tony recalling how while vacationing with him in his country, Top Cat and his gang (minus the missing Spook) slept together in a pile, but T.C. would always periodically wake up and frantically search around, not having any peace due to his gang being incomplete.
  • Woobie: This story is really not kind to Spook. It opens with his parents having been murdered, and only worsens from there. He loses both his ears, is sufficiently broken by the end of chapter 6, and tortured for days in chapter 9.
    • Choo Choo, after being tortured.
    • Stoic Woobie: Top Cat is worried to the point of depression over his gang. In chapter 6 he has his throat slashed open and is nearly left for dead, but he would still rather die than ever let his anguish show. Especially around Officer Dibble. To make matters worse, Gold Pelt, the cause of all this heartache, is his brother and is spitting in the face of everything their father did to protect them, however misguided it was.
