YMMV / Candy Land

Go To

  • Audience-Alienating Era: The 2013 version boasted Animesque visuals, and replaced the cards with a fragile spinner. It only took a year for Hasbro to redesign the game again, and bring back the cards.
  • Nightmare Fuel: A good deal of kids were freaked out by Lord Licorice's original design.
  • Popular Game Variant: The official rules have you just picking a card from the top of the deck, which you have to play. While this is suitable for very young children, many older players like to make the game more interesting by letting the players hold a hand of 3-5 cards, and choosing which one to play each turn, then drawing a replacement. Cards that move you to one of the specific "candy" spaces can also be played "onto" another player, sending them backwards.
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not Didactic?: Candyland the Nature of the Absurd analyses the children's board game as though it were a deep philosophical work, courtesy of Existential Comics.
