YMMV / Black Lightning 2018 S 3 E 9 Earth Crisis

Go To

  • Continuity Lockout: If you watch only Black Lightning and no other DC/CW series, then you're in trouble. The episode does not make a point of explaining what is causing the events, and the resolution will only occur in the episodes of the other Arrowverse series. This is an Enforced Trope in other regions, as countries like the UK and Brazil have the shows on different channels (and different airtimes). The UK, for example, has Black Lightning on Netflix, while the rest of the shows are either on E4 (Batwoman) or Sky (everything else).
  • Like You Would Really Do It: Black Lightning's third season was scheduled to end in March, meaning the Class X-4 apocalypse that ends the episode would never have stuck no matter the long-term consequences for the status quo.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Aside from Crisis coming to Black Lightning's Earth which screws with Jennifer's powers there's very little to nothing connected to the event. This episode could have given the perfect chance for Black Lightning to meet the other heroes and vice-versa and help with Jen's powers. Instead it's almost completely contained to the main cast, with Gambi not only figuring out Jen's ties to anti-matter but somehow able to figure about the whole multiverse thing in the span of a couple of hours while it took an actual person from an alternate Earth to clue Team Flash into it. This is an unfortunate case of Real Life Writes the Plot, since Black Lightning films in Atlanta and the Arrowverse shows film in Vancouver, making any crossover of actors from one to the other prohibitively expensive.
