• Fridge Horror: Considering what Appa went through in that circus for a few days, who knows how long the other circus animals have dealt with the same thing, and were probably still experiencing after Appa escaped...
• Harsher in Hindsight: A big reason Aang and his friends had spent the last five episodes traveling to Ba Sing Se was to rescue Appa, having been told he was traded there. As this episode reveals, however, Appa was never traded to Ba Sing Se, and was nowhere close to the city. If the Guru hadn't guided Appa to Aang, he would have spent who-knows-how long fruitlessly searching for someone who was actually miles away.
• Tear Jerker: If the countless amounts of abuse against the animal doesn't get you, Appa's desperation to find his best friend will.
