YMMV / Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The score by Chris Crilly is a quite striking part of the film's ambience, just so long as you aren't too fussy about authenticity (there's even some Tuvan throat singing in there).
  • Dancing Bear: Many reviews of the film commented on the wonder of the fact that it was made at all.
  • Lost in Medias Res: One recurring complaint about the movie is how difficult it is to figure out what's going on in the first 15 or 20 minutes. The characters and their relationships are barely introduced, the ritual in which Kumaglak dies is never explained, the time frame hops back and forth, and the small amount of narration by Sauri's mother doesn't really explain anything. Fortunately, once we get to the adult Atanarjuat things get more linear.
