• Strangled by the Red String: Raymond and Sarah meet, exchange a few polite phrases and immediately afterwards decide they want to get married. It’s more justified in Raymond’s case, since he would cling to any hope to change his life, but it’s extremely odd for happy and independent Sarah.
  • Well, not entirely happy. It's easy to miss, since it's only mentioned once, but Sarah had been engaged until a month prior to the story's beginning. The narration flat-out states that she went on vacation in order to take her mind off of things.
