YMMV / Allan Sherman

Go To

  • Seasonal Rot: Pretty much everyone agrees that the three My Son... albums are his best, while everything afterwards is a mixed bag (some funny songs and some clunkers). Record buyers certainly took that view in The '60s, since the My Son... albums all hit #1 in Billboard, but none of the albums afterwards could even crack the Top 20.
  • Spiritual Predecessor: Not surprisingly, Sherman was a huge influence on (and frequently compared to) "Weird Al" Yankovic.
  • Suspiciously Similar Song: "One Hippopotami" is a parody of Anthony Newley's hit "What Kind of Fool Am I?" but Sherman was evidently unable to get the rights, so the song uses a sound-alike tune.
