  • Broken Base: The timeskip in the later chapters. To be precise, when Mosi sees Africa with Mondo after having been missing, assumes she abandoned him and replaced him with Mondo, and leaves immediately without talking to her, clearly building up resentment towards Mondo. Many people hated this for the "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot aspect and the cliches involved with said plotline, despite how easily it could be resolved and how stupid it is he does not even attempt to talk to his mother, despite her showing affection (albeit being stern at times) and care for him, and him hearing her roar calling out for him after he went missing. while some thought it made sense given the context of how a child can jump to conclusions without thinking and the prior foreshadowing that Mosi could end up like Chui and go down the path most male leopards do (i.e. killing cubs); something his mother did tell him happens inevitably. That being said, the later parts of the post-time skip chapters do a lot more to alleviate this; showing that Mosi saw Sabra sold him and Binti out to the lions, getting Binti killed and Mosi scarred. So it's more reasonable that he would be mad at seeing Africa with Sabra's son. Additionally, it shows that Mosi asked the hyena matriarch not to tell Africa where he was, and he later reveals that he, despite some apparent resentment of Mondo, wants time to sort out his mixed feelings about seeing his mother adopt Mondo. Finally, his conversation with the elephant in the swamp reveals that his refusal to visit his mother for months is also because he is worried he will cave to the instincts of a male leopard and end up killing Mondo.
  • Salvaged Story: After the frustration at the "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot involving Mosi not talking to Africa when he sees her with Mondo and jumping to a conclusion about being replaced, despite ow easily they could resolve this the post time skip chapters go a long way to explain Mosi's decision. Specifically, they reveal he asked the hyena matriarch to not to tell Africa about where he was because he is sorting out his feelings about Mondo, as we see Mosi learned that Mondo's mother, Sabra, sold him and Binti out to the lions, which got Binti killed. So it's understandable he has some resentment towards Mondo by proxy of what his mother did. That conversation with the elephant in the swamp shows that Mosi also is worried about succumbing to the instincts male leopards have and end up murdering Mondo as a result; he's avoided Africa for this long because he does not want to hurt Mondo nor upset his mother.
