- Gladion's Type: Null evolves into Silvally during the final battle with the Ultra Mother.
- Ash captures an Alolan Sandshrew who evolves into Sandslash.
- Adaptational Villainy: Unlike the games, Phyco is the ultimate villain of the Ultra Beast arc, being the one who unleasehes Necrozma in a bid to steal all the light from the various worlds.
- Big Damn Heroes: When Pikachu exhausts himself against Ultra Necrozma, Lunala steps up with Nebby to defeat it.
- But Now I Must Go: After the final battle with Ultra Necrozma, Zossie doesn't return to Alola as Ultra Megaopolis needs her more than ever. Ash is heartbroken to say the least as this means he might never see her again.
- Heroic BSoD: Ash really doesn't take Zossie leaving well, and it takes a battle from Gladion to cheer him up.
