WMG / The Crown (2016)

Go To

The show will end with the marriage of Charles and Camilla in 2005.

  • This is more or less compatible with the showrunner's '20-year rule' of not dramatising events too close to the present

  • The show began with the wedding of the heir to the throne to someone they had chosen and insisted on despite a lack of royal support; to end it this way would suitably bookend the show

  • The civil ceremony would suggest that the royal family have learned the lesson of putting the pursuit of genuine happiness within duty above ersatz pageantry, and would fit well with Charles's plans to streamline the monarchy

  • It would take the story beyond the deaths of Margaret and the Queen Mother and keep the spotlight largely off William and Harry's generation.
    • Confirmed. The final episode of the series, "Sleep, Dearie Sleep," covers Charles' and Camilla's marriage.

The show will end with the marriage of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in 2011.

  • The marriage of the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall may now be fully accepted, but in 2005 it was still somewhat controversial. The marriage of “Wills and Kate”, meanwhile, was almost universally popular and would allow the show to finish on a triumphant ending of “The Crown will continue”.
    • Jossed. The show ends earlier, in 2005 (though William and Kate are together in the penultimate episode, "Hope Street").

The show will end with Harry meeting Meghan.
  • As a sort of Sequel Hook for a possible season 7 or something one day. Bonus points for Meghan to be played by Meghan Markle
    • Jossed. Meghan never puts in an appearance (fictional or real-life cameo).

The series finale will have a montage of the real-life Queen Elizabeth until her final appearance which would be like a memorial for her
  • Jossed.
