The second lieutenant's father is Hermann Göring

We know that his father was a feldmarshall at some point, and that his uncle was the director of a weapon factory (one of the second lieutenant's antics involved a howitzer-sized Mauser Kar98k he had his uncle make in his weapon factory), and Hermann and Albert Göring happened to fit the roles (plus, Albert was a Nazi opposer who would have authorized his idea of making a howitzer-sized Karabiner 98 just to waste resources). Sure, Göring was promoted to Reichsmarschall early in the war, and his only known child is a girl born in 1938... But nothing prevents the second lieutenant from being an illegitimate son, and it would be just up to his stupidity to have missed the promotion.
