While she apparently gets her clothes from op shops, it's possible she has expensive hobbies or just goes out partying a lot on weekends, spending a lot doing so. She's just convinced her coworkers her poor standard of living is due to low pay rather than poor money skills, and Dave can't correct this misunderstanding due to confidentiality.
