The Film Version of Sortilège Isn't Real:

- The film's version of Sortilège isn't a real person, rather she's Doc's inner thoughts given a voice and name, with the woman herself being entirely imaginary. This is hinted at several times.

- Nobody besides Doc speaks to or about Sortilège at any point, besides Shasta. Shasta only mentions Sortilège at the very end of the film, after Doc has already brought her up. Shasta likely knows Doc better than anyone, and it's possible Doc could have explained Sortilège's nonexistence to Shasta at some point.

- While Doc drives to Tariq Khalil's former neighborhood, Sortilège sits in the passenger seat and informs him about the history of Real Estate projects in LA. The shot is entirely focused on Sortilège, but when the shot reverses to show Doc in the passenger seat, Sortilège is gone.

- When Doc walks into the Massage Parlor shortly after, the car is shown again with nobody inside.

- At certain points in the story, Sortilège seems to be directly speaking to Doc. The best example being when Doc gets his car back from the impound for a second time, she whispers "Doper's ESP, Doc!" right before he decides to check the trunk. She continues to speak directly to him throughout that scene.

- When Shasta mentions Sortilège towards the end, she claims Sortilège "knows things, Doc, maybe about us that we don't know", implying Sortilège has some kind of higher knowledge about the two.
