The original plan was to have the Anti-Monitor as The Man Behind the Man of the crisis

It was proposed by Linkara, but the idea is that The Anti Monitor was manipulating heroes and villains to Divide and Conquer. That he'd weaken the Spectre, distract the space powers, use the OMAC as new shadow demons, making the villains impotent, weakening the bonds of the heroes, thus giving him the space to finish what he'd begun: the destruction of the positive matter universe.
