The female campaign is HLD 1.5 and Sol Ash Kingdom is HLD 2.0
The two entities, Anubis and the big bad are both A.I.s manifested in what appears to be nanotechnology. This would help explain the earlier drifters’ sickness and subsequent deaths.The female isn’t infected because she was born after the conflict that affected her two counterparts. Possibly a test tube baby born in the south? This also helps explain why she didn’t bother destroying the cell in the final dungeon: neither her nor Anubis know of a way to wipe it out permanently, so she was sent there to buy time.
She came after the first drifter because Anubis handed her, her predecessor’s drone, and possibly an improved pistol. Her other drone is likely a civilian model, not meant to have the same utility while on her mission.
Hyper Light Drifter is a third alternate ending to Evangelion
- The Pillar of Light seen in the beginning is a representation of Third Impact, with giants seen in the beginning being some of the mass-produced EVA units from End of Evangelion. The Drifter is a failed clone of Rei Ayanami, the shadowy creature chasing her is one of the Angels, Judgement is another form of Rei!Lillith, and the Immortal Cell is Shinji fused with EVA-01.
