Sho's parents are actually dead.
Despite her claims that her parents "are probably out there somewhere", if Sho is indeed the narrator of the first scene in the game (which she likely is), her parents have actually been killed. Thus Sho is probably lying when she said she has no traumatic backstory. Sho is actually Kaison's childhood friend.
- Sho has pinkish-reddish eyes, just like his childhood friend. The stress of whatever event that occurred to her to make her into who she is today caused her hair to turn white.
- The reason why Shirley always has her eyes covered in illustrations is because opening them would reveal that they are different from Kaison's childhood friend's.
Following this WMG...
- Shirley is her older sister. If the first scene in the game is indeed from Sho's point-of-view, it means she has a sister. This is why Shirley has similar features to Kaison's childhood friend(in this theory's case, Sho). Shirley learnt the song and got the one of the hair ornaments from her sister while her sister kept the other(that's why she only has one).
- Peeking around in the game files does confirm that there is a connection between Sho and Shirley: the latter's surname is given as Reilen, suggesting that either one of them was the childhood friend.
Chloe is Flora Lane's missing twin sister.
When Sho first meets Layner, he mentions his cousins Mikaela, and two younger, twin sisters. Flora was sent to the orphanage, while her twin Belinda is considered 'missing'. Flora and Chloe have stunningly similar hair and eye colors.
