Command & Conquer: Generals Evolution is a total conversion Game Mod of Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 that aims to recreate Command & Conquer: Generals in the more modern Red Alert 3 engine, which features more detailed graphics and more stable online play. Generals Evolution is not meant to be a one-to-one port of Generals, though it seeks to imitate the original game as close as possible, and also includes balancing fixes, new units (usually those that got Dummied Out from Zero Hour), new skirmish maps, and a six-mission single-player campaign that takes place after the ending of the Chinese campaign in Zero Hour.

The mod can be found on Mod DB and its Discord server is located here. It's fair to assume that this mod shares a lot of tropes with the original Command & Conquer: Generals.

The game provides examples of:

  • Adapted Out: Since the Red Alert 3 engine does not support their logic, the GLA Angry Mob has not been ported over.
  • Arbitrary Headcount Limit: A player is only allowed to build three Dozers (American and Chinese versions counted separately), Workers and superweapons (of each type) at any time.
  • Decomposite Character: In the vanilla game, the only dedicated supply gatherer is the Chinese Supply Truck; the American Chinook and GLA Worker also serves to transport infantry and construct buildings, respectively. In this mod, both the US and GLA employ Supply Trucks; the Chinook is now a dedicated transport, while the Worker is further split into two different units (one that builds Command Centers and repairs buildings and the other that deploys into other buildings).
  • Fan Remake: This mod seeks to reimagine Generals on the newer Red Alert 3 engine.
  • Mythology Gag: A few new units added by the mod, like the American Mammoth Tank and Chinese Iron Dragon, were originally intended to appear in Generals during development but were cut before release.
  • Pragmatic Adaptation: While the mod imports a lot from Generals, said assets and elements are retooled and tweaked to better work with Red Alert 3's gameplay while still staying true in spirit to the source material.
  • Worker Unit: Due to limitations of the Red Alert 3 engine, these units work somewhat differently from the original Generals incarnation:
    • Whereas buildings in Generals are constructed by Dozers and Workers (which are built from the Command Center), the GenEvo Command Centers function like Construction Yards. The US and China build like the Soviets in the vanilla game (place the foundations of a building on a location, then the Command Center builds it), while the GLA reuses the Empire's method (with Workers carrying materials for a specific building serving as the Nanocore equivalent). Dozers still exist, but only serve to build Command Centers and repair structures (the GLA instead has another Worker unit which serves this purpose, distinct from the Workers that deploy into other buildings).
    • All three factions now employ Supply Trucks to gather money from supply depots, instead of having one different unit per faction.
