"An eerie house to be the stage.
To a tortured soul it's but a cage.
To you, lone visitor, it feels forlorn.
but soon there'll be nothing left to morn."

Claytown Horror is a story-focused single player horror-puzzle game developed by Nightmare Jar. As of October 25th, 2022 the first half of Claytown Horror has been released. Steam.

Claytown Horror contains examples of:

  • Featureless Protagonist: Ted Jayson, the protagonist, isn't shown on-screen at all.
  • Sanity Slippage: A letter in the demo written by a character named Monica begs an unnamed character to return home, as she feels that the stress of her artist career and having to take care of the children is slowly becoming too much for her. The decrepit state of the house and the implications that she might have murdered the kids in the trailer point to her eventually snapping.
  • Stop Motion: The characters in the trailer and the demo are all claydolls that are animated in traditional stop motion. The animation is a lot smoother in the found-footage part of the trailer, which makes the artificiality of the kids' show section even more discomforting.
  • Subverted Kids' Show: The trailer for the game is part kids show, part found footage horror-movie, with one story line following two characters who enter the house on the hill on a dare and the other telling a moral lesson about how stealing is bad. Needless to say the mixing of the two creates a very ominous and uncomfortable mood.
