Trivia / Under the Tuscan Sun

  • The Danza: The actor who played Pawel is named Pawel.
  • Referenced by...: The Australian travel writer Peter Moore refers to Under the Tuscan Sun in his travelogue Vroom with a View (the events of which took place a year before the film was released, although his book was published a couple of years afterwards). When visiting Cortona, he went to Frances Mayes's (real life) house, just so he could have his photo taken in front of it in order to wind up his editor, who had refused his request to tell him exactly where the house was. Turned out, Peter was able to find this out very easily once he got to Cortona, as the exact location of the real Villa Bramasole is well-known there. Peter also notes in his book that a rather shady local, who had turned his farmhouse into an agristurismo in order to capitalise on the Tourist Bump created by the success of Frances Mayes's book, claimed that his house was going to be used for a scene with George Clooney in the (then-unmade) film adaptation of Under the Tuscan Sun; in the epilogue, Peter wryly notes that said house wasn't used in the movie, which (of course) did not star George Clooney.
  • Tourist Bump: Tuscany in general and Cortona in particular benefitted a lot from the book, never mind the film.
