Trivia / The Ship Who...

Go To

  • Creator Breakdown: The first story, in which Helva meets her first brawn, falls in love with him, and has to watch him die an unnecessary death was written while McCaffrey was grieving for the death of her father.
  • Technology Marches On: In The Ship Who Sang, there's no digital recording: all records are on audio tape or film strip. And although there's mention of computers, it's with the implication that they're restricted to organizations (and probably large and immobile). In particular, there's no mention of computers on brainships; Helva controls everything in her shipbody directly. (This is one thing that was changed in the 1990s sequels, where brainships do incorporate computers, integrated with the shellperson through a Brain/Computer Interface.)
