  • Breakthrough Hit: Album-wise, Smash. Single-wise, "Come Out and Play".
  • Chart Displacement: Their breakout singles from Smash only entered the Airplay charts. One of their #1 hits in the Alternative Charts, "Hit That", is not as big as the other two ("Come Out and Play" and "You're Gonna Go Far, Kid"). And their Mainstream #1's are a much sadder song ("Gone Away") and two that came late in their career ("Coming for You" and "Let the Bad Times Roll").
  • Development Hell: The band began working on a follow-up to Days Go By as early as 2013, just a year after the album had come out. A single was released in 2015, along with the promise of an album later that year. Then 2016. Then 2017. Then 2018, 2019, and 2020 went by with promised release dates coming and going before Let the Bad Times Roll was finally released in April 2021, a full eight years after development began. Among smaller things, the band dealt with record label shakeups, the acrimonious departure of founding bassist Greg K., and the COVID-19 Pandemic pushed the album back multiple times while forcing rewrites and re-recordings.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes:
    • The song "Kill the President", from their self-titled album, was removed from the album starting with the 2001 release.
    • There exists an alternate version of "Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)" with extra words in the chorus, which was released on certain versions of the single but hasn't been re-released. One radio station that airs this version is CFWF-FM (104.9 The Wolf, "Regina's Rock Station").
  • The Other Marty: Josh Freese served as this for Ron Welty (fired before Splinter), Atom Willard (left due to other commitments before Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace) and Pete Parada (fired before the Let the Bad Times Roll tour for not taking the COVID vaccine).
