• What Could Have Been:
  • The original arc of Heart of Fire was going to be an eleven/twelve chapters long tragedy. Kathryn was never to leave the Lonely Mountain and Smaug, dying with him, and reuniting with him in death. That changed with the increasing popularity of the progressing story.
  • The author originally intended Andraya to be a more sympathetic villain, but decided this wouldn't work around Chapter 7 of Heart of Ashes.
