• Referenced by...: In The Sandman (1989) #71, Matthew the Raven emphatically refuses a drink, saying he "stopped drinking the hard way." Lucien responds, "The night can make a man more brave, but not more sober. I take your point." This is the most explicit of several clues, throughout the series, that Matthew is none other than the former Matt Cable. Though how Lucien knew lines that were from the narration rather than anything anyone in-universe actually said is less clear but then again he is a Magic Librarian.
