• Dawson Casting: Chakotay calls Kar "a boy of about 13." Aron Eisenberg was actually 26 when he played him. Eisenberg had a kidney condition that limited his growth in physical maturity to an even 5 feet tall. The episode's director auditioned actors more approximate to Kar's apparent age, but none proved right for the role.
• You Look Familiar: Kar is played by Aron Eisenberg, who also plays Nog on Deep Space Nine. He ended up being too familiar to viewers since the producers decided not to use Eisenberg in any future guest appearances on Voyager, although he soon became a pseudo-main character on DS9.
