Trivia / Split/Second (2010)

Go To

  • Acclaimed Flop: The game was received warmly by critics but failed to make much of an impact sales-wise, selling only 86,000 copies in the US in its first 12 days.
  • Creator's Oddball: Disney Interactive Studios' game output is overwhelmingly comprised of tie-in games adapted from the parent company's movies and television shows. Safe to say, this completely original IP being an intense, action-packed racing game with explosions and destruction as that main selling point is a stark diversion from that prior portfolio. It isn't the only original video game IP made by Disney, nor is it the first, but is definitely stands out the most.
  • Dueling Games: Sorta, being released about a week before Blur, even though being an arcade racer is pretty much the only thing both games have in common. Sadly this did partially lead to both games underperforming and causing the closures of both Black Rock Studio and Bizarre Creations.
  • What Could Have Been: The ending to Season Mode is unquestionably a Sequel Hook. However, it's merely a pipe dream at this point since Disney force-closed Black Rock Studios.
    • In early gameplay videos, one of the Route Changers in the Airport Terminal would've allowed the player to drive through the terminal itself. In the game, this is replaced with them driving through an underground parking garage.
      • Subverted in the PSP version where the beta track is now playable there, at obviously low-res.
