• Inspiration for the Work: It all started when Bill Hader accompanied Trey Parker and Matt Stone and the South Park staff on a writing retreat, where they encountered a fish ladder. This led Hader to make the "fish sticks/fish dicks" homophone joke, and Trey Parker insisted then and there that they check to make sure nobody else had ever made that joke (they hadn't). Then they decided they needed to figure out who could possibly take themselves so seriously that the joke would go over their head, and everyone present instantly agreed on Kanye West.
  • To a lesser extent, Cartman believing he contributed more to the Fish Sticks joke than he actually did is something Parker and Stone have encountered frequently in their showbiz career; people who absolutely, whole-heartedly believe they contributed more to something than they actually did.
