Trivia / Sonic SMS Remake

Go To

  • What Could Have Been:
    • In earlier versions of Sonic 1 SMS Remake, Knuckles had a completely different design before getting redesigned into his more known look in the recent builds.
    • Sonic 2 SMS Remake went through a lot of changes in it's lengthy two-year development:
      • According to some early concept photos, the Sonic 2 SMS Remake originally was going to have both characters of the team on screen, before it was changed to one been seen at a time to keep the identity of the Master System and according to a deleted blogpost due to being unable to get the AI to work.
      • Green Hills from 2 might have been planned to be seem in this remake, though was removed due to the creator being unable to create loop physics according to a deleted blog.
      • From this piece of art from a now-deleted blogpost, it appears that Hidden Cave Zone would have possibly been intended as a first level and would have Metal Sonic steal the Master Emerald, whereas in the final game, Eggman steals it via an opening cutscene.
      • From a deleted 2020 update, the game is mostly in its final stages, but has some differences. There were only three teams instead of four - with Knuckles and Mighty being a team instead of them being paired with Amy and Ray respectively from fan feedback - with the other two teams needed to be unlocked via competition mode and secrets (in the final all four teams are available by default), competition mode being made up from zones in Chaos, CD and Triple Trouble, and was planned to have a one-player mode instead of being zones from the base game and only being 2-player wifi play.
    • A planned remake of Sonic the Hedgehog Chaos was planned and even had a prototype. But due to many unsuccessful re-imaginings of the game, it ended up being cancelled and later merged into Sonic 3 SMS Remake: Timelines — along with Sonic Triple Trouble — instead.
