  • California Doubling: North Korean scenes were filmed in South Korea.
  • No Export for You: The high-definition version didn't receive an international release. The only difference is that it didn't show the montage of OP cases where Hee had a hand in terror attacks done in the movie.
  • Reality Subtext: The film depicts the two Koreas attempting to build friendly relations even as a North Korean commando group launches a terrorist attack to cause open conflict on the Korean peninsula. This reflects the general state of relations between the two sides at the time of the film's release, as much work was being done to present a friendlier public image via President Kim Dae-jung's "Sunshine Policy" even as North Korea engaged in violent escalations.
  • Star-Making Role: Arguably for Han Suk-kyu, Song Kang-ho, Choi Min-sik and Yunjin Kim. This movie made them even more known in and out of Korea.
